John Forrest foothills — Reclaiming a backyard from the jungle

A big overgrowth recovery, taking a steep backyard from shoulder-high weeds to a cleared, usable space.

This was a full-scale garden recovery in the foothills above John Forrest National Park. After a wet, wild season, dense weeds and overgrowth had taken over a steep backyard and made the outdoor space feel unsafe and unusable for the family.

The work involved cutting back the jungle, reopening access and sightlines, and working carefully across difficult slopes. Approximately 12–15 cubic metres of green waste was removed, including debris hidden deep inside the overgrowth and enough material to fill a skip. The bushland setting was part of the challenge: a dugite and a large monitor lizard were encountered during the clearance, so awareness and steady progress mattered every day.

The result was a backyard the family and children could use again. The job was physically demanding, but the real outcome was breathing room — a space reclaimed from the jungle and returned to the people who lived there. Marcello can be named only if permission is confirmed.
